As rapeseed season beckoned in the State, the Central Agricultural University (CAU) Iroishemba is all set to harvest at least 32,000 litres of rapeseed (mustard oil) in the State.
Setting to harvest at least 1100 kg or 11 quintals of rapeseed per hectare (pari), the CAU has distributed mustard seeds for cultivation in 1000 hectares (paris) in the four valley districts�Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur, this year.
The CAU authorities are expecting a harvest of at least 800 kg per hectare.
800 kgs of rapeseed is calculated to produce at least 320 litres of edible oil.
The initiative to cultivate rapeseed has been taken up with an objective to produce edible oil from cultivable land, Dr Premjit of CAU said.
