Fifty three packets of ganja worth about Rs.5 lakhs were seized by the 12 Maratha Light Infantry on Thursday night at about 9 from a Silchar bound bus at Kyam Mayai Leikai under Patsoi police station in Imphal West.
However, the security forces failed to apprehend the violators as they managed to escape in the cover of darkness.
According to official sources, the security forces on specific information seized the ganja during their road opening party duty.
The ganja was to be loaded in a bus bound for Silchar from Imphal.
The registration number of the bus is MN01-1501 .
The ganja has been handed over to the Patsoi police station, informed the source.
However, there were some arguments between the Patsoi part III Mahila Samiti and the Patsoi police department with the Mahila Samiti demanding that the ganja be burnt.
However, the police refused this as a case was already filed with the Patsoi police station, informed the source adding that the whereabouts of the culprits who tried to export the ganja is
not known.
