Quake jolts

Imphal, January 23 2023:
An earthquake of 5.0 magnitude on the Richter scale hit western region of Manipur at around 7.12 pm today.
The Seismological Observatory at the Department of Earth Sciences, Manipur University said the epicentre was located about 9 km west of Jiribam town, 90 km from Imphal.
The depth of the earthquake is estimated to be about 15 km, it said.
The epicentre is 70 km south of the epicentre of one of the most damaging earthquakes that occured on January 10, 1869 with an estimated magnitude of 7.4, killing two persons.
