Imphal, August 06 2014: Stating that the indefinite suspension of academic activities and eva-cuation of the hostellers by the Manipur University authority on August 5 has left the students residing in both the girls and boys' hostels in an precarious situation, Manipur University Tribal Students' Union Spokesperson, Lucky-son Panmei has asserted that the sudden notice served by MU authority has put the students in severe incon-veniences.

Speaking to reporters, Luckyson said that most of the tribal students have come from remote places and take almost 2 days to reach their villages.

While majority of the students cannot even pay the monthly hostel fees on time, there is no means for the students to maintain themselves at present.

Expressing concern over the lack of accessibilty to information in villages, he urged the authority concerned to circulate all the required infor- mation pertaining to revocation of the ongoing indefinite suspension of post-graduate classes; practical exams; re-opening of the University's hostels and other academic activities in electronic and print media and local vernacular dailies and radio.

As various departments have notified the last dates for submission of post-graduates dissertations, shutting down academic activities and forced evacuation of students from the hostels is unfortunate, added Luckyson.

MUTSU urged the MU authority to re-open the University hostels at the earliest and build a conducive atmosphere for better education in the State.

The Union also appealed the authority concerned to implement the Central Educational Institutions Amendment Act, 2012 as notified by the authority of Manipur University.
