IED recovered by army at NH-37

Imphal, December 17 2017:
A major tragedy was averted today morning with the timely detection of an improvised explosive device (IED) by troops of 5 JAK RIF of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S) .
The remote controlled IED was carefully concealed amongst the foliage along the National Highway 37 near Konthoujam, Imphal West District.
Upon detection of a suspicious package by troops of 5 JAK RIF who were on ROP duty, a joint team of IW Police and troops of 5 JAK RIF rushed to the spot.
The Bomb Disposal Team of IGAR(S) was requisitioned and upon checking, the package was confirmed to be an IED.
Upon dismantling the RCIED, 7kgs of explosive along with 3 electric detonators were found.
The IED was an improvised claymore with additional bolts put on top.
The 3 detonators were destroyed in situ and the balance of the IED was taken by the BD team for further analysis.
