Imphal, January 27, 2011: With the arrest of 12 more teachers including six lady teachers, the total number of arrested teachers of the Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) has reached 57.It may be mentioned that the teachers are undergoing the fast unto death stir demanding implementation of the 6th Central Pay in toto.

The 12 teachers arrested today were M Basanta from Lamlai, Th Ibotombi from Lamsang, Ch Homen from Lamsang, M Lalmani from Moirang, K Parvati from Moirang, M Ibemhal from Moirang, K Pishak from Uripok, M Shyamkishore from Heirok, Dr S Santibala from Bishnupur, Kh Paravita from Bishnupur, W Pramodini from Keishamthong and G Priyasakhi from Thangmeiband.

Considering the health of the teachers in jail, COTA appealed to the state government to provide beds to the teachers since some teachers have become ill by sleeping on the ground in the cold nights.
