Martyrs' Day observed

Imphal, January 30, 2012:
As in different parts of the country, the Martyrs' Day observation was held at Gandhi Memorial Hall here today.
The observation is held in remembrance of the day when Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, was assassinated by a Hindu fanatic, Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948.On this day, the soldiers of the nation who had sacrificed their lives fighting for the freedom of the country are also remembered and paid respect.
The State function was graced by Governor Gurvachan Jagat, Chief Minister O Ibobi, Speaker I Hemochandra, Chairman, Manitron, Dr Kh Ratankumar, DGP, Ratnakar Baral and other top government officials.
The Governor, on the occasion led the people in paying floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi as a mark of respect.
A contingent of Manipur Rifles sang the National Anthem and observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect.
