Imphal, July 05: Leaders of the All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj, Ima Indumani, Ima Ramani and Ima Tharongou met with the Union minister of state for home affairs ID Swami this afternoon at the Raj Bhavan, and lodged a voluble protest against the extension of the NSCN(IM) ceasefire in Manipur.
During the meeting, the three women leaders roundly criticized the Central government for creating chaos in Manipur by its ill-considered decision to extend the ceasefire, charging that the decision had resulted in severe strain in the fraternal relations that had been existing among hill and valley people.
The women also maintained that the territorial integrity of Manipur was being threatened by the Centre's decision and demanded it should be immediately withdrawn.
They also rejected outright a proposal from Swami to give them a written assurance that the territorial integrity would be not be disturbed, charging that many such assurances had been violated in the past.
Later, speaking to IFP, Ima Indramani said written assurances from the government of India had no validity and value since such assurances have been given countless times since 1997.She said the issue must be put up in Parliament and asked the Central leaders to withdraw the extension of ceasefire and warned the authorities of intensified agitation otherwise.
