Guwahati:, July 24 2009: Already on their toes over possible terror strike in the run up to the Independence Day celebrations, police in Guwahati have decided to award anyone who intimate the cops about explosives and help in preventing subversive activity.

The city police on Friday issued a public notice requesting people to be vigilant and inform nearest police station if they find anything suspicious to foil terror plans in the city.

The cops also asked people to inform them in case any terror organization attempts to lure or threaten anyone to work for them and carry out bomb blasts.

"There has been information that terrorist organizations might try to carry attacks before August 15.Therefore, we request all people to be extra-vigilant and inform us in case they find anything suspicious.

This would help us to prevent subversive activity," said the advertisement.

Security in and around Guwahati have been stepped up and security agencies here are carrying our massive combing operations following intelligence inputs that a group of seven Ulfa and NDFB militants have sneaked into the city to carry out attacks ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

Police have killed two NDFB militants during encounters and arrested few others belonging to both the outfits taking shelter.

Police on Sunday averted a major tragedy after they recovered a PTD explosive from a young Ulfa cadre taking shelter at a rented house in Gandhibasti area.

Police arrested the militant hours before he was about to plant the bomb at a crowded place for explosion.

Senior Assam Police officials claimed that Ulfa was involving students to carry out bomb blasts in Guwahati ahead of August 15 .

They said the terrorist groups were trying to woo young-boys with money and even threatened them to work against the country.

Urging people to co-operate, cops have said they would not only keep the identity of the informer secret but also award them.

"If anyone is threatened by terrorist groups to work against the interest of the country, we request them to inform either the nearest police station or get in touch directly with DIG (central and Western range) G P Singh and SSP (city) Pradip K Saloi immediately.

We will provide them security as well," said a city police official.
