Naga integration on talk agenda: NSCN (IM)

Imphal, July 21 2018: Reacting to the statement given by RN Ravi to a Parliamentary panel and which was carried by the Hindu under the heading 'FA is about special status for Nagas: Ravi,' the NSCN (IM) today asserted, 'at no point of time in the negotiations with GoI all these years, the NSCN had ever softened its stand on the issues of Naga history, identity, rights including integration of all Naga areas, let alone accepting the Indian Constitution.' A statement issued by the ministry of IPR of the outfit said that taking note of the statement of RN Ravi who is the Interlocutor to the peace talks said, 'the NSCN is constrained to put the matters in the right perspective to defuse confusion in the minds of the people who matter and added that 'the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015 lays down the fundamental principles of our relationship.

It fully respects the Nagas' aspirations of recognition of their uniqueness and commits both sides to a peaceful co-existence in an inseparably inclusive relationship on the basis of sharing the mutually agreed sovereign powers.

Within this Framework, details are being worked out." The recognition of Nagas' unique history and situation and Framework Agreement in essence implies the important steps taken toward a solution through mutual respect by both the entities, said the outfit and added that when the negotiating parties are fully committed to working out a solution that is acceptable to both, it is mandatory that the parties must exercise integrity, and restrain any agencies trying to derail the political negotiation.

"At no point of time in the negotiations with GoI all these years, the NSCN had ever softened its stand on the issues of Naga history, identity, rights including integration of all Naga areas, let alone a accepting the Indian Constitution," said the outfit and added that the relationship between the GoI and the Nagas shall be based on the agreement arrived at.

Lasting peace between India and the Nagas will equally benefit all in the region, added NSCN (IM) .

Be alert: UNC to Nagas .

The United Naga Council (UNC) in its Friday's 'emergency presidential council meeting' has resolved to take up "appropriate steps" anytime from now to defend the position of the Naga people, reports NNN.

The UNC said that the 'emergency' meeting was called following the comment of Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh who had reportedly told a National daily newspaper that "extreme steps will be taken if Naga deal hurts Manipur's interest" .

The UNC informed Newmai News Network today that it will initiate a strong form of agitation any day to defend the inherent rights of the Naga people.

"Therefore, we alert the Naga people to be ready for any eventuality," the Naga body added.

According to the UNC, the 'emergency presidential council meeting' also strongly condemned the comment of Chief Minister Biren Singh.

"Under any circumstances we have not compromised our inherent rights in the past.

In future, too, we will never compromise our inherent rights come what may," the UNC asserted.

The 'emergency' meeting of the UNC resolved to draw the attention of the Government of India to translate its commitment on the Naga political issue into action.

"The Prime Minister has been giving commitment to resolve the Naga political issue at the earliest.

Yesterday's meeting took a decision to remind the Prime Minister in this regard," stated the UNC.

The 'emergency' meeting of the UNC also resolved to remind the Naga people to abstain from any programme of the Manipur Government in the seven new districts.

The UNC also asked the Naga people not to give even indirect cooperation to the Government in this connection.
