Language directorate opened

Chief Minister O Ibobi today announced that a language directorate has been opened from today in commemoration of the inclusion of Manipur language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Ibobi noted that over two decades had been completed since the Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Stating that the language directorate has been opened with a view to promote all languages/dialects recognised by the Government, the Chief Minister assured all possible assistance to the newly established directorate from the Government's side.
Meanwhile, an order issued by the Under Secretary, Department of Personal Shyam Lal Poonia has given the additional charge of Ex-officio Chairman, Language Planning and Implementation to Additional Secretary Kh Raghumani who is also in charge of Economics & Statistics, Higher & Technical Education and SCERT.
Heartily welcoming the opening of Language Directorate by the State Government, Meetei Eyek Loinasilol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has expressed hope that the Directorate would surely promote the languages of the State.
Speaking to media persons at its office, MEELAL president Sadokpam Tomba Mangang said that it was heartening that the Language Directorate has been finally set up.
The subsequent appointment of Kh Raghumani and Dr N Mahabir as the Director and Deputy Director of the Language Directorate would give an impetus in the right direction for the promotion of the language, Tomba Mangang said.
Addressing the media persons, Dr N Mahabir said that the Directorate of Language (Planning and Implementation) would endeavour to preserve and promote Manipuri language and other indigenous tribal dialects as well as other dialects of domiciled tribes of the State.
