AMWJU, EGM condemn

Unknown miscreants attacked the residence of Khoirom Loyalakpa, Editor cum Publisher of Naharolgi Thoudang at Kontha Khabam in Imphal East after midnight today.
The Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) and the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) have condemned the attack.
According to reliable information, some unknown assailants fired multiple rounds at the house at around 12.30 am, thereby causing damage to the residential gate.
Loyalakpa was at his office at Sega Road Hazari Konjeng Leikai at that time.
Soon after, a team of Imphal East police rushed to the site of the incident and carried out a search operation along with the bomb disposal squad.
The police team has recovered some empty bullet cases from the site.
A case has been registered at Heingang police station.
Meanwhile, the Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) and the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) have condemned the gun attack.
In a joint statement, EGM and AMWJU said that they convened an emergency meeting at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club over the incident and resolved to urge the Government to arrest the culprits and penalise them accordingly.
It also asked all concerned to either approach EGM or AMWJU before taking any action against any Editor over publication of a news item and respect the code of conduct (local adjustment) of AMWJU.
