WRD on high alert monitoring situation

The Water Resources Department has taken up appropriate measures to control flood like situation at Ithai Barrage as per the direction of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and also opened a control room.
In a statement, the department informed that in view of the incessant rain in the catchment area of Ithai Barrage and consequent flood like situation, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has given instruction for continuous monitoring of the flood like situation and accordingly, appropriate measures have been taken up at the site of the barrage.
CMD, NHPC and Group General Manager, Loktak Power Station have discussed the matter.
As per the statement, Barrage and Power House are under normal operation.
Normal Full Reservoir Level (FRL) being maintained in the upstream of Imphal River and normal water levels are under observation.
According to the statement of the department, barrage gates are being operated as per the Standard Operating Protocol.
Against the normal discharge of about 90 cubic meter per second (cumec), flood discharge at about 235 cumec is passing safely downstream and the central gate is already kept open (1.5 meter) .
The Department has also opened a control room in connection with the flood like situation and it is on full alert to deal with any situation.

NPHC officers and engineers of the Water Resources Department are continuously monitoring the situation in tandem, the department added.
