Imphal, July 09 2010: MPP MLA O Joy has decided to stay away from any debate during the ongoing Assembly session until and unless the Speaker takes a definite decision on the position of the seven Naga MLAs who tendered their resignation letters earlier.

Raising a point of order, the veteran MLA sought a concrete decision of the Speaker on the resignation of the seven Naga MLAs.

Peeved with the indecision of the Speaker, O Joy staged a walk-out from the Assembly yesterday saying that he would not sit together with the MLAs who were bent on disintegrating Manipur.

"The Speaker may sit together with those people", he added.

Notably, independent MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing, elected from Phungyar constituency, who was among the seven MLAs who tendered their resignation letters, has been attending the Assembly session since the first day.

On the other hand, O Joy came to the Assembly today but abstained himself from taking part in any debate.

MPP MLAs O Joy, Dr Ng Bijoy, Dr I Ibohalbi and RK Anand raising a private motion demanding establishment of a special court in order to prevent bandhs and blockades and punish bandh/blockade sponsors as well as to exact compensation from those imposing bandh/blockade.

As Speaker Dr S Budhichandra accepted the motion for debate in the House, Dr Ng Bijoy urged upon the Speaker to give a definite answer to the point of order put up by the MPP legislature wing leader.

Saying that debate on the private motion should be initiated by O Joy, Dr Bijoy urged upon the Speaker to give an answer about the position of the MLAs who tendered their resignation letters so that O Joy can take part in the debate.

RK Anand said that the Speaker may issue a ruling on the point of order and come to an understanding regarding the stand-off.

He went on to inform the House that the MPP leader was boycotting the Assembly session.

To this, Speaker Budhichandra called upon the House to begin debate on the motion as all other Members were present.

He categorically stated that the point of order was not related to the private motion.

As the scheduled agenda have been taken up for discussion, it was not the time for deliberation on the point of order.

Stating that no one could not play his or her whims and fancy in the House, the Speaker suggested that the point of order may be discussed at some other time.

Soon after, the Speaker adjourned today's session.

Later, speaking to media persons after the House session, O Joy said that he would come to the Assembly but would not take part in any debate inside the House until and unless the Speaker takes a decision on the point of order.
