Enough is enough, says UNC

Senapati, November 08 2024: The United Naga Council (UNC) said today that it was perturbed by the series occurrence of unwarranted incidences, heavily impacting the "Naga populace" in the recent times of this protracted ongoing conflict is a matter of great concern.

The latest case of abduction and brutal assault on one Joshua Kamei belonging to the Rongmei community who worked as a driver in a railway company on November 5, 2024 in and around Keiku Kabui Khul gate, Imphal East is not an exceptional case," it also said.

Whilst condemning "such dastard and coward acts" in the strongest terms, the UNC raised serious questions over the motive behind all these unwanted happenings and disruptions of peace for Nagas living in the State.

In a statement, the UNC said, "Enough is enough! Seventeen months have well passed ever since the mayhem broke out on May 3, 2023 and all the ethnic communities living in Manipur including Nagas as the third parties have been suffering untold miseries in every sphere.

"The Naga public is running out of patience to further endure all such hardships and provocations from both the warring communities," it said.

The UNC then said the Naga people seriously viewed "these belligerent and provocative actions" that demand prompt and proactive steps from the State authorities and employ necessary policy and actions towards curbing all such criminal activities.

It also said that prompt delivery of justice to the victims and initiation of exemplary punishment to the culprits as per the law of the land is a must to meet the ends of justice.

The concerned civil society organizations are also fervently called to look into the matter earnestly by the UNC and initiate proactive steps to contain all these sporadic incidents before things blow out of proportion.

The UNC then drew the attention of various authorities and the responsible civil organizations in the State for immediate intervention to put at rest these mushrooming of check posts and unwarranted checking/frisking/detentions and various strictures imposing upon Naga people in sporadic areas and unabated illegal taxation/extortion towards the commuters and suppliers of essential commodities along National Highways and inter-district highways once and for all to ensure peace and sanity prevails in Manipur.
