Imphal, September 06 2026: Several organisations have condoled the demise of renowned artist and former Principal of Imphal College, Thoidingjam Tombi Singh and former Joint Director of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre and Professor of Seed Science, CAU Imphal, Dr I Meghachandra Singh.

Tombi, 89, passed away on Saturday morning after a brief illness at his Khagempalli residence, while Dr Meghachandra passed away on September 1 .

Thoidingjam Sagei convened a condolence meeting today at Thoidingjam Lairembi Laikon, Khurai.

Speakers recalled Tombi Singh's immense contributions to art and literature, noting that he had won numerous awards at the State and National level, including the Manipur State Kala Akademi Awards in 1974 and 1976 and Chitrakala Ratna 2026 .

The gathering observed two minutes of silence as a mark of respect and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.

Moreover, Film Forum Manipur has also deeply mourned the demise of its advisor and former jury member Th Tombi Singh.

In a separate message, the All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA) said Dr Meghachandra had imparted training to farmers, promoted high-yielding varieties and quality seed production and played a major role in State planning and organic certified seed production.

Terming his demise a great loss for the farming community and the State, AMPFA pledged to carry forward his work for farmers' welfare.
