Imphal, September 05 2024:
Aggrieved by the State Government's failure to deploy more State forces at Thamnapokpi and Yaingangpokpi in Imphal East district in the backdrop of the Kuki militants' renewed offensive, the Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force (LKVVF) have blocked Imphal-Ukhrul road at Yaingangpokpi Bazar from today.
Earlier ruling MLA Kh Ibomcha assured that more State forces would be deployed in Yaingangpokpi and Thamnapokpi areas.
Together with leaders of several village leaders, elders and Meira Paibis, LKVVF held a meeting at Yaingangpokpi Keithel.
The meeting resolved to enforce an indefinite bandh on Imphal-Yaingangpokpi road from today.
Demanding deployment of adequate strength of State forces at Sanasabi, Thamnapokpi, Yaingangpokpi, Sabugkhok Khunou and Shanti Khoban, Imphal-Ukhrul road was blocked on August 7.The bandh was lifted after local MLA Kh Ibomcha assured that the people's demand would be fulfilled soon.
As Kuki militants once again attacked these places on September 1, the villagers demanded deployment of more State forces at these places within three days.
As their deadline ended with any positive response from the Government, the LKVVF and the local villagers imposed an indefinite bandh on Imphal-Ukhrul road
from today.
