Kangpokpi, July 05 2022: Salient issues on shortage of manpower and infrastructure at Kangpokpi District Hospital were highlighted during the handing and taking over of PSA Oxygen Generator Plant cum inauguration of ICU Ward and Waiting area of the hospital today.

The event was held at the conference hall of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi in the presence of Haokholal Hangshing, Caretaker Chairman, ADC Sadar Hills; James Doujapao Haokip, MCS, CEO-SHADC, Kangpokpi; Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip, CMO Kangpokpi and Dr Paotinlal Haokip, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Kangpokpi.

ADC Sadar Hills Caretaker Chairman Haokholal Hangshing marked the inauguration with the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon after James Doujapao Haokip handed over the documents related to the PSA Oxygen Plant to CMO Kangpokpi.

Speaking on the occasion, Haokholal Hangshing expressed appreciation for the District Health Department for their relentless and wholehearted efforts especially during the pandemic.

He said that the Sadar Hills ADC, Kangpokpi has been extending all possible help to the Health Department and will continue to do so in the future.

James Doujapao Haokip also hailed the services of the medical staff and officials of the District Health Department to the public despite limitations in manpower and infrastructures.

CMO Kangpokpi, Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip said that all the equipment in the newly inaugurated ICU Ward at the District Hospital were donated by the 10-bedded ICU Project but the room renovation of the ICU Ward and installation of bedside oxygen pipeline was possible with the help of Sadar Hills ADC.

The CMO also expressed sincere thanks to the ADC Sadar Hills Caretaker Chairman and CEO-SHADC Kangpokpi for their tireless support of the health department.

Dr Paotinlal Haokip said that despite Community Health Centre Kangpokpi being upgraded to the status of District Hospital, the MGEL post still remains in CHC status.

He highlighted that out of the total 14 sanctioned staff nurses posts, only 4 staff nurses are posted at present thereby creating immense difficulties for the staff and administration.

He further said that out of two drivers sanctioned, only one is posted and it has become very difficult for one driver to cover 24x7 duties.

While conveying that the higher authority of the state had been informed of the shortage of manpower and infrastructure, Dr Paotinlal Haokip hoped that positive action would be taken by the higher authority very soon.

Haolet Kipgen, President Kangpokpi Youth Union appealed to the higher authority concerned regarding the urgent need to fill up the vacant post of drivers, Grade-IV, and staff nurses of the District Hospital Kangpokpi and other vacant posts to avoid issues which arise frequently due to the limitation.
