Imphal, August 31 2020: With by-election for the vacant seat of the Manipur Legislative Assembly likely to be held along with the Bihar state Assembly election, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee is all set to fill its candidate.

After the nephew of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Okram Henery who had won the election from Wangkhei Assembly constituency had left the Congress party and joined the BJP, another aspirant candidate Thangjam Arunkumar today joined the MPCC and is all set to contest the by-election as a Congress candidate.

It is likely that Thangjam Arunkumar of the Congress party will have a straight fight in the upcoming by-election with the nephew of CLP leader O Ibobi.

A felicitation function for approval of Thangjam Arunkumar as the MPPC member was held today at Congress Bhavan.

CLP Leader, Okram Ibobi, CWC member Gaikhangam , MPCC President M Okendro and other important office bearers of the MPCC attended the felicitation function of Thangjam Arunkumar.

Speaking on the occasion, Th.Arunkumar said that he chose to join the Congress party in respect and regard to the sacrifices of the party during freedom struggle.

"I believe in the party and the leadership, so I join the Congress party", Thangjam Arunkumar said.

CLP leader, Okram Ibobi Sing while speaking on the occasion said that some people are making mockery of democracy by humiliating the peoples' mandate for their own selfish agenda.

"The Congress party will fill the most trustworthy and committed candidate in the upcoming by-election", Ibobi said.

President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, M.Okendro while speaking on the occasion said that it is high time to teach lessons to those who does not know the party's ideology and principles.

He said that people of Manipur from both hills and valleys have started recognizing the developmental works taken up during 15 years rule of Congress government.

Th Arunkumar is the founding members of Royal Riders, Manipur.

And was the President of Rotary Club of Polo City.

Currently, he is the Assistant Governor of District 3240, Eastern Zone.

Th Arunkumar also is a sports enthusiast.

He is the President of NEROCA FC, a premiere football club of Manipur.

He has served the club in different capacity since a long time.

He was Manager, Secretary and Treasurer of the club.
