8 Tokay Geckos rescued

Imphal, July 30 2012:
Eight Tokay Geckos which were being reared by two individuals have been rescued by police and Forest Department officials.
However, the lizard keepers managed to flee away.
According to managing trustee of the People for Animals, Thoubal L Bishwajit, a combined team of Forest Department officials and police raided some houses after receiving information that there were some people who were rearing the particular lizard species in Nambol area of Bishnupur district.
Altogether eight Tokay Geckos were found when the combined raided houses of Sinam Ranjit and Moirangthem Puhanba at Kamong Meisnam Maning Leikai today.

Even as the lizards were rescued, Ranjit and Puhanba managed to flee away, said Bishwajit.
In this connection, Bishnupur Forest Division DFO L Lukhoi who led the raid would lodge a case with police tomorrow.
The rescued Tokay Gecko's are in the custody of the DFO.
