United Nations Day On October 24 : PREPAK commits to UN's objectives

The proscribed PREPAK has greeted all the people of the world on the occasion of the UN Day (October 24) .
A statement issued by the outfit's publicity and propaganda assistant secretary Leibakngakpa Luwang conveyed that PREPAK has full faith in the UN's objectives of peace, progress and welfare for mankind.
The seed of the UN was sown when 26 countries made a joint declaration for collective fight against the Axis powers on January 1, 1942 .
Then the UN General Assembly declared October 24 as the UN Day on October 24, 1948 .
The day assumes great significance because it reminds every country and their citizens about the UN goals of promoting human rights, right to freedom, security, peace, economic and political self determination, cordial relationship among different countries.
One remarkable accomplishment of the UN was declaration of December 10 as International Human Rights Day in accordance with resolution no 423 (V) and this was followed by another historic declaration on December 14, 1960.It was the "Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples" .
Taking serious note of the continued colonisation in different parts of the world which is responded by sustained liberation movements, the UN adopted a number of resolutions in support of the liberation movements against colonialism in any form.
Some noteworthy declarations are, "It is gross violation of fundamental human rights if a Nation is being suppressed by a foreign power and it is against the UN Charter.
All the people have the right to self determination and by exercising this right, people can determine their own ways of political system, economy and culture" .
Again, the UN General Assembly Resolution No 2611 (XXV) of October 12, 1970 said, "Colonial peoples have the inherent right to struggle by all necessary means at their disposal
against colonial powers" .
On the other hand, Articles 2(4), 1 (2) and 55 of the UN Charter clearly laid down that no colonial powers which are members of the UN should resort to extensive military means when colonial people wage wars of liberation against the colonial powers.
However, in spite of these UN principles and resolutions, the Government of India has not been honouring the right to self determination of the people of Western South East Asia including Kangleipak and has been using its military power to suppress the freedom movements of the region.
Even though the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights endorse the right to self determination and whereas India has ratified 25 covenants, the Government of India has been staying aloof from the basic points.
In response to Article I of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Government of India misinterpreted the freedom movement of Kangleipak and other nations saying that the freedom movement of Kangleipak was an internal matter of India.
Though India gave its assent to Right to Self Determination in 1979, it has been contending that the right should be made applicable to only 'nations under foreign occupation' .
But Kangleipak has been reeling under foreign domination since October 15, 1949 and the people of Manipur have been struggling against alleged Indian occupation of Manipur for the last many decades.
Government of India's misinterpretation of the legitimate freedom movement and its misleading propaganda would not last long.
After the end of Cold War, the UN came under heavy influence of the unipolar world led by the USA.
Together with it, the pace of decolonisation process has slowed down to a great extent.
Given the diminishing commitment of the UN towards its own promise of right to self determination, colonial peoples across the world have to struggle hard and by themselves to wrest their right to self determination rather than waiting for the UN's verdict, the outfit noted.
It further called upon all the people of Kangleipak to be prepared for a more intensified struggle.
