Imphal, September 01 2009:
Referring to the news item published under the heading "JAC decrees", in the September 1 issue, which read as '...due to extreme torture by police during interrogation, Ng Amumacha s/o Ng Bira of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai has been undergoing treatment in psychiatric ward of RIMS....
he is now in abnormal condition, even unable to recognise his parents', Imphal West SSP L Kailun has rejected the JAC's statement as not only incorrect but also malicious.
A press release issued by the SSP clarified that Ng Amumacha was summoned by the IO on August 27 for examination in connection with investigation of case FIRs no 75(7)09 and 82(8)09 of City Police Station.
He was further examined on August 28 in the office of the IO of the case, SDPO/Imphal S Ibomcha.
During both the appearance, his father was present and on the second day, his elder brother and sister were also present.
The statement was taken in front of his parent/family members.
Hence, the question of torturing, let alone extreme torture did not arise, the SSP said.
In the course of his examination, Amumacha complained of pain and uneasiness.
Hence, he was shifted to RIMS Hospital by police vehicle with his parent/family members, the SSP added.
