Neena Ningombam, Secretary of Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families' Association, Manipur has sought the support of all concerned in its struggle for basic dignity and justice in the State and beyond during a Discussion on AFSPA in the side event of the 23rd session of the UN Human Rights Council today at Palais des Nations.
According to a statement, the meeting went off very well with participants raising critical questions.
The report of the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions is expected to be presented tomorrow as the scheduled is being pushed back a bit.
Neena will also participate in the general debate and making a presentation in the UN Human Rights Council on behalf of the Asian Legal Resource Centre and the Extrajudicial Execution Victims Association, Manipur.
Highlighting the genesis of the EEVFAM and its activities in the State to the audience, Neena said that the register office had denied registration of EEVFAM as a society as they consider the word 'extrajudicial execution' as 'anti-state' .
The plight of the widows became gradually visible in public discourses as EEVFAM started taking active part in the civil society processes, she said and added, "EEVFAM has given us the strength to be who we are and face the world in our own terms with dignity and grace.
The mental and emotional support that we draw from this collective can hardly be over stated" .
