Input distribution / capacity building programme held

An input distribution-cum-capacity building programme was organised today under National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project at the conference hall of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Chandel today.
Seeds of groundnut and soybean and various saplings were distributed to the progressive farmers.
Dr A Ameeta Devi, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Chandel in the inaugural speech advised the farmers to practice farming in an integrated mode to maximise both their productivity as well as returns.
She wished the farmers to put in extra efforts in the coming cropping season, said a press release by KVK Chandel.
Ts Leenda Monsang, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) of Plant Breeding spoke in detail about the package of practices of groundnut, soybean and improved varieties of paddy right from planting stage, weeding, intercultural operations and harvesting.
She urged the farmers to adopt scientific and improved technologies for farming.
Dr Kangjam Sonamani Singh, Nodal Officer (NICRA) while speaking at the occasion expressed KVK's steadfast commitment towards upliftment of farmers' livelihood.
He called upon the farmers to shun away the age-old practice of mono-cropping.
In the wake of changing weather patterns, he emphasized the need for farmers to take up farming in sequential mode so as to enhance crop productivity, resource conservation and farm income.
He advocated for renovation of the existing farm ponds so as to increase the storage volume, in the present trend of erratic rainfall and emphasized that the harvested rainwater can be an excellent source of life saving irrigation.
He stressed on the need for farmers to grow crops which are resistant to drought or heat/moisture stress to circumvent total crop failure.
He advised the farmers to avoid mindless deforestation and to keep abreast of the regular weather updates circulated in social media.
He reiterated the activities of ICAR, Manipur Centre and KVK, Chandel which exemplified the dedication towards upliftment of farmers and farm women of the district.
The programme was attended by 38 farmers and staff of KVK Chandel, said the release.
