NIA formally arrests KNF (MC) man

In connection with the killing of two CRPF personnel and injuring two others at Naranseina Maning on April 27, 2024, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Imphal Branch has made formal arrest of a militant belonging to Kuki National Front-Military Council (KNF-MC) .
NIA Imphal branch filed an application before the Special Court, NIA Manipur seeking permission to make formal arrest of Thongminthang Haokip alias Thangboi Haokip alias Roger (38) s/o (L) Holkhasei of Malhoi (S), Churachandpur district and the Court remanded him to NIA custody for four days.
The Special PP, NIA submitted that in compliance with an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, NIA registered a case on June 13, 2024 based on an FIR registered at Moirang police station against a group of militants and their supporters who attacked CRPF troops deployed at the western side of the 2nd IRB camp, Naranseina Maning on 27 April at around 12.45 am and killed two personnel of the Central paramilitary force besides injuring two others.
In the course of investigation, it was discovered that Thongminthang Haokip alias Thangboi Haokip alias Roger who was arrested on June 6, 2024 from Imphal Airport in connection with another case taken up by NIA Delhi regarding transnational conspiracy by insurgent and terrorist outfits to exacerbate violence in Manipur and spread terror in the North Eastern part of the country was one of the prime suspects involved in attacking the CRPF troops.
Thongminthang Haokip is presently lodged in District Jail, Rohini, New Delhi.
Further credible information about Thongminthang's involvement in the attack was established through technical investigation of his mobile phone handset, tower dump data collected from the place of occurrence, CDR and SDR analysis of a mobile phone seized from the place of occurrence at Naranseina, the Special PP said.
The Special PP further submitted that the mobile phone handset seized from Naranseina was found to be of one of the militants who was directly involved in the commission of the crime, and the CDR analysis of the phone number revealed that it made frequent contacts with the mobile phone belonging to Thongminthang.
Moreover, tower dump data analysis shows the same location of both the phone numbers at the place of occurrence during the interval of commission of the crime.
It was also submitted that Thongminthang was examined twice in Central Jail, Rohini, New Delhi after taking due permission from the Court concerned in connection with the instant case (attack against CRPF troops) .
Thongminthang disclosed that he was the commander of the group of 18 or more militants who attacked the CRPF camp at Naranseina, the Special PP told the Court.
The Special PP submitted that further examination of Thongminthang is required to find out the details and particulars of his accomplices, and sought the Court's permission for formal arrest of Thongminthang.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the Special PP NIA and accused Thongminthang who was produced before the Court through video conferencing and on perusal of the material on record, granted permission for NIA to make formal arrest of the accused and remanded him to NIA custody till October 28 .
