Imphal, April 25 2023: Claiming that the death of her daughter was a case of homicide, mother of Devia Devi has urged the authorities concerned to give capital punishment to her son-in-law Laishram Rocky.

RK ningol Laishram ongbi Devia Devi (29) from Ningthoukhong Radha Mandap Ward no 8 who got married to Laishram Rocky of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom on April 22 last.

The parental side of the deceased claimed that Devia might have been hanged after being killed by her in-laws as she had several bruise marks on her body.

Laishram Rocky is son of L Atomba and L (ongbi) Achoubi.

Reportedly, Devia had completed B.Ed course and was preparing to be a teacher at an aided school.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, mother of the deceased RK Subadhani said that her daughter got married to Rocky in February 2021 after they eloped.

Devia left behind a daughter of 1.2 year, she added.

Continuing that it was Rocky who informed them about the passing away of her daughter on April 22 at around 11 am, Subadhani claimed that her daughter was hanged after being beaten severely by Rocky, his two elder sisters and a niece on April 21 to depict it as a case of suicide.

She alleged that bruise marks of kicking/striking were found on different parts of her daughter's body such as thigh, back, index finger, middle finger, head, arm etc during the autopsy.

Demanding that accused Rocky and others involved in the case must be given capital punishment, she claimed that harassment against women and children is widespread in the society as the penalty given for the offence is not severe.

Subadhani further alleged that her daughter ran out of the house at one point of time seeking help as she couldn't tolerate the harassment.

There were arguments among the two families during the time of the marriage as the couple had a common consanguinity, she said.

Claiming that Rocky even lied to them that he and Devia were going to RIMS hospital for a medical check up on April 21 when calling, Subadhani claimed that the phone was not picked up when dialled again to inquire about the sickness.

"We came to know about the death of Devia the next day (April) after Rocky told us," she added.

The older sister of Devia, on the other hand, claimed that Rocky is a gambling addict.

She also said that the sisters and mother of L Rocky have gone into hiding after the incident.
