Imphal, August 23 2017: President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi led others in condoling the demise of former CM, former MP and nonagenarian politician Rishang Keishing .

President Ram Nath Kovind today condoled the demise of the former Manipur Chief Minister and a member of the first Lok Sabha Rishang Keishing .

"Condolences on demise of ex-CM of Manipur Rishang Keishing.

A veteran political leader & member of first Lok Sabha," he tweeted .

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also condoled the demise of former Chief Minister of Manipur and senior politician Rishang Keishing .

"The demise of Rishang Keishing leaves a great void in the politics of the North East, a region he served with great diligence .

My thoughts are with the family and well-wishers of Rishang Keishing in this sad hour", the Prime Minister said .

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has also condoled the demise of Rishang Keishing.

The Congress president said that she is "deeply saddened by the demise of one of the senior most leaders with a sterling record of public service of nearly 70 years and who was member of India's first Parliament."
Gandhi offered her prayers and condolences to friends, family and people of Manipur at this loss and expressed hope that his "good work and endearing commitment to people will always find a place in the working of future generations."

Governor of Manipur Dr Najma Heptulla conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family and the people of Manipur at the demise of Rishang Keishing and also shared their sorrow .

In a condolence letter to Khatingla Keishing, wife of the deceased politician, Dr Najma Heptulla said Rishang dedicated his whole life to the development and welfare of the people of the State .

"He served the State and the people tirelessly throughout his life and his passing away is an irreparable loss which will be difficult to fill up," the Governor said .

Dr Heptulla prayed that the bereaved family and people of the State have the strength to bear the loss and that the departed soul rest in peace .

Governor of Odisha Dr SC Jamir also sent his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members of Rishang Keishing .

In a condolence message, Dr Jamir said that Keishing had the distinction of not only being a member of the first Lok Sabha from Manipur but also represented the State in both Houses of Parliament for the longest period in the history of the State.

Keishing had vast contributions to the development of NE in general and Manipur in particular .

Recalling the intimate relation he shared both at the personal as well as political life with Rishang Keishing, Dr Jamir remembered the Nehruvian era politician also as an excellent sportsman who specialised in javelin throw .

"His passing away is an irreparable loss to the State and a great personal loss to me," the Odisha Governor said while offering prayers for the departed soul to rest in peace .

Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Y Khemchand conveyed deepest sympathy to the bereaved family of Rishang Keishing .

In a condolence message, Y Khemchand said that in his passing away, the country has lost a great and oldest Parliamentarian whose contribution towards the cause of the State would remain etched forever .

Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Revenue Minister Karam Shyam extended his condolence on the demise of the former Chief Minister and Parliamentarian .

Terming the demise of Keishing as a big loss to the State, Karam Shyam said that a bright star has been lost .

Karam Shyam met the family members of late Rishang Keishing at their Mantripukri residence and offered his deepest condolence.

The Minister said, "We have lost an ideal leader and a great son of Manipur who dedicated his entire life for the welfare of the State and the people.

Keishing was a source of inspiration for the entire State, particularly for the youth" .

The Minister also remembered Keishing as a fine human being who believed in humanity and social harmony.

His almost 70 years of public service including being the member of India's first Parliament will be hard to replicate, he added .

BJP Manipur Pradesh also condoled the demise of former CM Rishang Keishing.

The party members observed two-minute silence to show respect to the departed soul and a prayer for his soul to rest in peace during a condolence service at the party office located at Nityapat Chuthek today .

The BJP Manipur also shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family .

Naga Political Leaders' Forum Manipur (NPLFM) also condoled the demise of Rishang Keishing .

Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights -South (NPHMR) expressed its heartfelt condolences on the demise of Rishang Keishing.

"His service to the people in different capacities, as the Chief Minister and Parliamentarian will be remembered," said NPMHR (S) in a statement.

It also shared the grief of the bereaved family .

Staff of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to former CM Rishang Keishing and to share the sorrow and pain of the grief stricken family.

During a condolence meeting chaired by Prof H Nabachandra, Director (i/c), RIMS today, the staff also prayed for his soul to rest in peace .

Believers Church Manipur; Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Manipur; Lok Janshakti Party, Manipur State Unit; North East India Development Party; Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council; All India Trinamool Congress, Manipur Pradesh; Young Vaiphei Association (YVA) Joint Headquarters Imphal; Komrem Union, North East India; Coordinating Committee of Recognised Private Schools, Manipur; Cultural Forum Manipur; All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union; All Manipur Muslims (Meitei Pangal) Welfare Association have also condoled the demise of the former CM Rishang Keishing .

Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang, has also condoled the demise of former CM Rishang Keishing.
