NIA's wanted man in police net

Imphal, May 08 2021: A team of Kakching District commandos nabbed a person last night who was announced most wanted by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with an ambush on a ROP team of 4th Assam Rifles in 2017 .

The person identified as Mayanglambam Siromani @ Casper @ Kesper was announced most wanted by NIA in connection with the ambush that occurred on November 15, 2017 at Chamol Sajik Tampak and carried a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh as a bounty on his head.

One Assam Rifles jawan was killed and three others were injured in the said ambush in which two UG cadres were also killed.

The NIA Guwahati Branch had re-registered the case after taking it over from Chakpikarong police station in compliance with an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

During investigation, NIA established that PLA and MNPF conspired to wage a war against the Union Government and carried out the ambush on Assam Rifle personnel on November 15, 2017 .

During the investigation of the case, identities of the perpetrators were established and subsequently three accused were arrested last year on different dates and are currently lodged in Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.

NIA is also likely to take formal arrest of Mayanglambam Siromani @ Casper @ Kesper in coming days.

The accused identified as Laishram Anilkumar @ Amuthoi @ Thoudam Anuthoi singh @ Ibomcha was arrested by a team of Imphal West district police on June 12, 2019 and he was formally arrested from Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa by an NIA team on July 5, 2019 after taking due permission from Court.

Another accused Thangjam Achan @ Rajesh @ Thoujal, son of Meghachandra of Pourabi Awang leikai was also formally arrested in connection with the same case from Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa after he was arrested by Tengnoupal district police in July 2019 .

Meanwhile self-styled Major of PLA/RPF identified as Chandam Tondon @ Shileiba @ German 29 s/o (L) Shyam Singh of Awang Sekmai was arrested on August 20 .

After the investigation of the case, NIA submitted charge sheet before the Court of Special Judge NIA Manipur on December 31, 2019 against the arrested accused persons Laishram Priyokumar @ Amuthoi @ Ibomcha, Thangjam Achou @ Achan @ Thoujal, Chandam Tondon @ Shileiba @ German and three others who were on run namely- Koijam Ibochouba @ Sumo, Thokchom Ningthem @ Feijoijamba and Mayanglambam Siromani @ Casper @ Kesper.

Subsequently, the NIA Court announced Koijam Ibochouba @ Sumo, Thokchom Ningthem @ Feijoijamba and Mayanglambam Siromani @ Casper @ Kesper as proclaimed offenders on January 2 last year and charges were framed for the special trial case number 1 of 2020 on 16 January 2021 .

The trial of the case is underway.

In the meantime, Mayanglambam Siromani @ Casper @ Kesper was produced before the Duty Magistrate Thoubal today and taken into seven days police custody remand till May 14 for further investigation of the case.
