Imphal, May 06 2024:
Imphal West Deputy Commissioner has issued an order today to control the price of roofing tin sheets after the severe May 5 hailstorm left a trail of destruction across the State.
The demand for roofing materials including GI sheets had risen with people standing in long queues in front of shops.
Even as many houses and structures were blown away by the strong wind on May 5, hailstones caused severe damage to the roofs of numerous houses in several parts of Imphal and other places.
The order of the Deputy Commissioner to control the price came amid reports of shops hiking the price as demand increased.
The order said Deputy Commissioners have been authorised to monitor the sale of the roofing materials including GI sheets to ensure fair price and availability.
To ensure the roofing materials reach all those who have been genuinely affected by the hailstorm, all whole-sellers and retailers must open on all days including Sundays and holidays, and display prices of the roofing materials outside their establishment, said the order.
What the order says
(a) All whole-sellers, retailers and shops shall remain open on all days including holidays and Sundays;
(b) The stock position, brand, thickness and prices shall be affixed outside their shop/establishment for general awareness.
A copy of the same shall be made available to the DC, Imphal West through DSO, CAF and PD.
(c) The rates of 30th April, 2024 (or lower rates, wherever possible) shall be used as the market rate/price of the material.
(d) No bulk purchase/buying, including by private parties, shall be allowed in any of the centre/shops/establishments.
(e) All sales shall be only for the hailstorm affected families and details of the sales should be indicated in the records of the establishment.
(f) District Supply Officer, CAF & PD, Imphal West and representative of Superintendent of Police, Imphal West shall monitor the entire operation of the shop/establishment in the district.
Any grievances may be raised through call or SMS on mobile number 8132854956, said the order.
The order will be enforced for one week ie from May 6 to May 13 .
