Distribution of prizes to student toppers, selected teacher and sportspersons of the State was held at Asha-Jina Complex today in connection with the Governor's Award and RK Sanatombi Devi Award 2006.The Governor's Award, which was in 1998, is conferred to meritorious students of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Haotal as promotion and encouragement incentives to the institute's students while the RK Sanatombi Devi Award covers students, teachers and sportspersons of the State for their excellence in their respective field.
The awards presentation ceremony was held with Governor Dr SS Sidhu and Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Prof C Amuba Singh as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Governor expressed that rationalisation in the education sector has become inevitable to promote quality education in the State.
Stressing on the rationalisation process to be solely based on needcentric and without any discriminatory consideration, the Governor also took serious note of Govt schools unable to raise from its demoralising status compared to achievement of private educational institutions in terms of producing meritorious students.
Pointing out that education is the main fulcrum around which ingredients in Nation building, its progress and prosperity revolves through development of human resource, the Governor termed as 'paramount importance' role of teachers in moulding character of the students.
He, however, noted with great pain that relationship between the teacher and taught had undergone a sea change in the present context throughout the world and called upon all concern to chip in towards plugging the steadily expanding teacher-pupil chasm.
Education, in its true sense of the term is a process of self-discovery.
It is the art of self sculpture with its central purpose arming the students to acquire knowledge and skill and make them available for the task of Nation building, said the Governor.
The Governor's Award this year went to the institute's class XI science student Samjetsabam Bharati Devi.
the RK Sanatombi Devi awardees include topper among candidates from Manipur in the AISSE-2006 conducted by CBSE, New Delhi and HSLC 2006 examination of BSEM.
The recipients are (AISSE) Payal Jain of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, Lamphel and Angelica Laiphrakpam of Nirmalabas School.
Both the awards carry Rs 3000 each.
Headmasters of Oinam Sawombung High School (Thoubal district) Puyam Ibopishak Singh and Mapithel Area Junior High School (Ukhrul district) Maibam Ibopishak Singh were among the teacher awardees while handicapped persons presented the award include Thokchom Johnson Singh (visually impaired) of Nambol Thiyam Mangrapokpi (Bishnupur dist) and Khaidem Helena Devi (mentally challenged) of Uripok Khaidem Leikai (Imphal West).
Sportspersons honoured on the occasion are Nongthombam Sunibala Devi (arm wrestler) of Kwakeithel Henoukhongnembi Konjeng Leikai; Ngasepam Mema Devi (weight lifter) of Chingmeirong East; Khangembam Rasheshori Devi (athlete) of Thoubal Pakhangkhong Leirak; Huidrom Tombisana Devi (cycling) of Langmeidong Maning Makha Leikai (Thoubal dist); Maisnam Luwangleima Devi (gymnast) of Wangkhei Konsam Leikai (Imphal West); Ningthoujam Bidyabati Devi (mountaineer) of Mongjam Maning Leikai (Imphal East); and Leitanthem Romita Devi (wrestler) of Lairenkabi Maning Leikai, Lamshang (Imphal West).
