Imphal, July 07: Taking serious note of the ongoing economic blockade imposed on NH-39 and NH-53 by the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur since June 19, the United Committee Manipur has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister urging him to intervene and resolve the impasse immediately.

In the memorandum, UCM minced no word in stating that though the UPA Government in its Common Minimum Programme had stated that the existing boundaries of the North East States would not be changed it has included the demand of a Greater Nagaland in its present parleys with the NSCN (IM).

Since the Government of India has failed to implement its earlier assurances and promises, it has created a conflict situation in Manipur this has emboldened the ANSAM to launch the economic blockade to oppose the decision of the State Government to declare June 18 as State Integrity Day and a State holiday, charged UCM.

It can therefore be logically concluded that the Centre is responsible for the present situation in Manipur, said UCM and added that as per the Constitution of the country, the Centre is solely responsible for the protection and development of National Highways.

Urging the Centre not to shy away from its responsibilities, UCM asked the Prime Minister to tackle the present situation without further delay and open the National Highways by taking up adequate security measures.

Unless the matter is resolved in time, the people of Manipur may rise against the blockade and situation will take a turn for the worse, UCM observed in its memorandum.

The memorandum further said that the State Govt did the right thing in declaring June 18 as Integrity Day and State holiday.
