Imphal, August 26 2016 :
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has strongly condemned the attack on a rally of indigenous Tripuris by Bengalis at Agartala on August 23 .
In a statement, the committee said that the rally was organised by Indigenous People's Front of Tripura to save indigenous Tripuris from suppression, disrespect, humiliation and losing political status which could give a huge impact to their life.
Stating that the incident was unfortunate, JCILPS asserted that disruption to indigenous people's democratic stir by 'outsiders' was a direct challenge to all the indigenous people of the whole North East region.
Maintaining that such challenges are growing day by day, JCILPS observed that indigenous people of the NE region need to fight it collectively.
At this juncture, Manipur Government must act on the matter with a political will by passing an effective and unanimous Bill during the upcoming Assembly session, the committee said.
JCILPS with the support from the public is ready to resume the stir any time.
Numerous civil society organisations in Manipur have condemned the incident.
