The Liang-mai Naga Council (LNC) the apex organisation of the Liangmai tribe of Manipur has said that the people of Tamei are facing intense hardship due to shortage of food-stuff in the area.
In a statement the body urged the Govt of Manipur and other concerned authorities to look into the plights of the people of Tamei sub-division owing to the numerous landslides occurred in the area.
LNC president Azinbou Abonmai said that there has been shortage of food-stuff in the area as no transporters could reach the area adding that other essentials commodities were also running out.
He further said that Tamei sub-division had been cut-off from all the directions as heavy landslides had blocked the roads leading to the area from the rest of the places.
The LNC president said that just about two km away from Kangpokpi at a place called Tulibari in IT road the condition was very serious.
He said that the landslides at Tulibari was so heavy that unless the State Government take it seriously the condition may worsen further.
The LNC president also stated that inter-villages roads were also been cut-off in the sub-division and as such the villagers could not be linked now with the rest of the state.
The paddy fields of Khunphung village in the Barak valley which is popular known as the "Rice-bowl" of Tamei Sub-Division had been completely damaged due to the flooding water of Barak river, said the leader.
Essential medicines are also now running out, added Abonmai.
Numerous landslides that occurred in Imphal-Tamei road had be-en the main factor which caused of the plight in Tamei area.
Meanwhile, SDO of Tamei Kirankumar Thokchom has informed NNN that seven goods laden trucks had reached Tamei yesterday after ten days of their departure from Inphal.
The officer said that the trucks were stranded on the way as they could neither reach Tamei nor could they return to Imphal due to landslides.
The SDO further said that the drivers of the trucks were now in Tamei.
The numbers of the vehicles that reached Tamei yesterday are MN-01 3758, MNA-2393, MN-01A-0096, MN-01-4115 and three others,reported the SDO.
However, reports from separate sources said that the trucks would not be able to return to Imphal soon due to landslides.
