Arunachal Pradesh MLA Tirong Aboh along with 6 others killed in ambush by suspected NSCN-IM cadres

Itanagar, May 21 2019: When the nation celebrates "Anti-Terrorism Day" and takes pledge to oppose with all strength, all forms of terrorism and violence, a sitting MLA of Arunachal Pradesh Tirong Aboh along with 10 other persons were killed in a cowardly attack by heavily armed militants suspected to be cadres of the NSCN-IM which is presently engaged in peace talk with the Govt of India at Bogapani village of Tirap district under Khonsa Police Station in Arunachal Pradesh this morning.

Tirong Aboh is a sitting MLA belonging to National People's Party (NPP) who got elected from Khonsa West Assembly constituency.

10 others who were companying him were also reported killed in an attack.

Aboh was seeking re-election from Khonsa West Assembly seat.

The result of Assembly Elections in Arunachal Pradesh will come on May 23 .

According to reports, suspected NSCN (National Socialist Council of Nagaland) militants could be behind the attack, which took place at Bogapani village of Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP president Conrad K Sangma has confirmed the attack.

Taking to Twitter, Sangma said the NPP strongly condemned the "brutal attack on Tirong Aboh and his family and his security personnel" .

"The NPP is extremely shocked and saddened by the news of the death of its MLA Shri Tirong Aboh (Arunachal Pradesh) and his family.

We condemn the brutal attack and urge @rajnathsingh and @PMOIndia to take action against those responsible for such attack," Sangma further tweeted.

The attack comes weeks after another NPP worker and Tirong's supporter was killed by a suspected NSCN(IM) member at a village in Arunachal Pradesh in March.

The suspected member of the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) assaulted Jaley Anna and his friend Kham Nai Abhi, both NPP workers, at Kheti village in Tirap district.

Anna died on the spot.
