Manipur is becoming a lawless state as both state actors and non-state actors are engaging in killing people, lamented speakers at the foundation day celebration of the Apunba Lup today held under the theme "Atrocities Perpetrated and Public Movement" .
The 6th foundation day celebration of Apunba Lup was celebrated with a function held at Manipur Press Club today.
Speaking on the occasion Coordinator of the Working committee of Apunba Lup, Karam Sunil lamented that "If former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were happened to kill in Manipur, security forces would have killed all the civilians here" .
He lamented over non application of process of trial in the state and prevalence of summarily killings in Manipur by security forces and said that the killers of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were tried under law of the land for a long period time and accordingly given penalty under law, however, in Manipur many innocents have been killed as Security forces applied summarily killings in Manipur.
The foundation day was with the theme on Atrocities perpetrated and public movement.
Karam Sunil exclaimed that since tourist spots are occupied by security forces in the state, tourists from outside are visitng Irom Sharmila, who has been on fast against summarily killings in the state.
He also stated that people of the state are bound to face more harassment in days to come because the present government has turned blind eyes on lawlessness citing that government did nothing on the shooting of advocate general of Manipur and seizure of illegal arms from MLAs Quarters in Babupara.
MU Assistant Professor Dr Dhanbir Laishram, who attended the function reminded that government of India has doled out various schemes starting before birth of a child till old age for protection and welfare of its citizen, but in Manipur a person is easily shot death by gun under AFSPA, 1958 by security forces and later hushed up the issue with a clarification that the deceased was suspected underground.
He further said state security forces are always after people who join movement against Human right violation in Manipur.
He emphasized the need of better coordination among different groups struggling against human right violations to uphold true essence of democracy in Manipur.
