Imphal, August 06:
The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Committee observed Hiroshima Day at Irabot Bhavan today.
The day is being observed in memory of those thousands killed and several more physically deformed after the dropping of an atom bomb in Hiroshima on this day during the World War II.
As chief guest of the observance at Irabot Bhavan, Chairman of CPI's Control Committee Moirangthem Ibohal recalled extensive destruction caused to human due to the attacks at Hiroshima and later Nagasaki while reminding that war/conflict only brings sorrow and distress to the people.
Explaining on the objective of the observation CPI State Secretariat Member B Sharma said to prevent loss of life and property from wars it has become inevitable that gravity of destruction triggered by the Hiroshima bombing should be a constant reminder to the people.
He regretted that inspite of being aware of destructive power of atom bomb as was evident by such attacks at Hiroshima and Nagasaki there are countries still in possession of hydrogen bomb, which Sharma said is 16 times more powerful than atom bomb.
The US policy of throttling a developing nation like India from making its own nuclear bomb contrary to the fact that a developed country like USA had been stockpiling weapons of mass destruction also came under severe criticism from the CPI
functionary.
He also stated that the UPA Government signing the nuclear deal with the US is due to misconception and miscalculation of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh as such a pact would be detrimental to India's interest besides jeopardising ambition for a power sufficient nation.
B Sharma further contended that the UPA Government had been ignoring proposals by India's top nuclear scientists for additional fund to develop nuclear power plants so as to address power shortages contrary to hastily joining hands with the US for the same objective.
Many party leaders and workers were also present at the occasion.
