An 18-year-old boy was electrocuted by a looping high tension power line at Yairipok Top Chingtha of Imphal East district under Yairipok Police Station at around 9.40 am today.
The deceased has been identified as Yumnam Nong-yai s/o Ingocha of Yairipok Top Chingtha Maibam Leirak.
According to information culled from the spot, Nongyai accidentally contacted the HT power line as he tried to take out a bucket from the water tank of a rural water supply scheme using a bamboo.
Speaking to reporters at JNIMS morgue, Andro A/C MLA Th Shyamkumar said, the incident happened due to the negligence of the State Power Department.
Including today's incident, six persons have lost their lives due to electrocution in his Constituency so far, Shyamkumar said.
The MLA said that the Power Department has failed to maintain the electric poles and power lines properly in his Constituency.
He also slammed Thoubal Division Executive Engineer for his alleged negligence.
The MLA alleged that the Executive Engineer collected paddy instead of electric bill from the consumers.
The EE is also providing several unauthorised connections to many households, Shyamkumar claimed.
