Imphal, August 05 2016 :
The State Government has been meticulously working on a new Bill which can protect the indigenous people and would be acceptable to all the communities, stated ruling Congress MLA RK Anand.
Speaking at the inaugural function of a Meira Paibi shed at Malom Tuliyaima today, Anand said that a new Bill is being drafted after the PMP Bill 2015 was withheld by the Government of India.
The new Bill is being drafted after taking into consideration all the concerns raised by the Government of India to the all party delegations as well as the situation of distrust and misunderstanding prevailing among different communities in the State.
He exuded that the new Bill would be tabled in the State Assembly and passed at an appropriate time when it is certain that there are no controversial elements.
Without such a legislation, all the indigenous people of the land would not have any political and socio-economic future.
The unique culture and identity of Manipur will also disappear.
Out of India's total population of over 100 crore, the population of Manipur constitutes a microscopic minority.
At the same time, enactment of a legislation is not a cake walk.
There are limitations.
But a Bill must be drafted and passed.
To overcome this challenge is the duty of all the legislators, Anand asserted.
He then appealed to all the people of Manipur, irrespective of topography and ethnicity, to help the legislators in drafting and passing a new Bill.
