Imphal, August 04 2013:
Not ruling out involvement of Kuki armed group(s), who are signatories to the suspension of operation (SoO) agreement with the State and Central Governments, in the abduction of seven persons including four engineers who were returning from Dolaithabi Barrage on August 1, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said investigation is on to ascertain all possibilities in the abduction case.
Speaking as the chief guest at a Block level meeting of Congress party at Thangmeiband today, the Deputy CM affirmed that all possible measures are being taken to not only establish facts on whether or not SoO groups are involved in the case but also to secure safe and early release of the abducted persons.
While conceding that due to security reasons further details on the investigation cannot be divulged, Gaikhangam, also the Home Minister, said as two out of the seven have been released today better sense would prevail upon the abductors to free the remaining five.
Regarding the block level meeting organised by Thangmeiband Block Congress Committee at the Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai residence of MPCC secretary Jyotin Waikhom, the Home Minister said under the instruction of the AICC high command the Congress party in Manipur should have atleast one meeting in a month for all the 60 Block Congress Committees and 14 District Congress Committees.
Along with updating the AICC through submission of reports such meetings are being organised to facilitate further minute discussion on achievements of Congress Government, clear misconceptions and disseminate relevant information to the common people, Gaikhangam explained.
Citing NREGS as one of the noble projects of the UPA Government to enable individual family live a respectable life for which substantial amount of money is being provided to specific areas, the DyCM also contended that owing to successful implementation of various welfare schemes by the Congress Government the opposition parties are compelled to retract from their hostile attitude.
In his brief address, Jyotin Waikhom accusing the sitting Thangmeiband MLA of misguiding the people through false propaganda contended that he would not contest elections in the future if a single charge against Congress party or its workers could be substantiated.
