Many condemn harassment of doctor

The Naga People's Union, Imphal, All Naga Doctor's Forum Manipur and the Khulsaibung Student Unit, Tengnoupal District have condemned the harassment and detention of Dr Mejonah Larung Maring by some police personnel at Palace Gate on May 24.A statement issued by M Ngaranmi, president, NPUI has urged the relevant authority to take up immediate action against the personnel involved to ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future.
Meanwhile, Khulsaibung Student Unit, Tengnoupal District, a subordinate body of Maring Students' Union has demanded suspension of the police personnel who subjected Dr Mejonah Larung Maring to unprofessional treatment on the night of May 24, according to a statement issued by the Unit.
Expressing their disapproval against the display of misuse of power and authority by the police personnel, the Khulsaibung Student Unit said that Dr Mejonah was returning from his evening work out when he was stopped by a group of 6-7 police personnel to check his vehicle documents.
After presenting the documents, Dr Mejonah informed them that he was a doctor and presented with a valid ID, said the statement.
Khulsaibung Student Unit have further accused the police personnel of asking irrelevant questions and making unprofessional remarks despite Dr Mejonah producing the necessary documents.
Thus, Khulsaibung Student Unit has demanded suspension of the police personnel involved in the incident as soon as possible after the procedural investigation.
