Imphal, September 26 2009: Taking strong exception to the words of disapproval raised by a handful of people from Thoubal district against the people's movement, the JACs constituted against the killing of Sanjit and Rabina observed that those people lacked any sense of civility or responsibility.

They were enemies of the people, the JACs said.

Speaking to media persons at the residence of late Sanjit at Khurai Sajor Leikai today, the JACs strongly condemned the remark and stance adopted by a handful of people belonging to Thoubal district.

Co-convenor of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Th Rabina, S Nongleima asserted that those people who openly challenged the mass movement by saying 'the demand for resignation of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi was unreasonable' were opportunists seeking and enjoying the blessings of O Ibobi.

They allegedly took down and tore the posters put up the Apunba Lup at the behest of Chief Minister Okram.

They were impostors masquerading as Meira Paibis.

Those handful of anti-social people even attempted to storm media offices, the co-convenor decried.

Nongleima asked whether Okram Ibobi was elected from Thoubal A/C to unleash a reign of terror against the innocent people of Manipur.

Women's organisations and other related bodies based in Thoubal district should introspect whether the people of other districts need to show solidarity to the people of Thoubal district as and when innocent people of Thoubal district are killed after Ibobi's tenure is over, she suggested.

She further asked whether the people of Thoubal district accept the remarks made by some women in the local cable news channel on September 25 .

In case the people of Thoubal district do not agree with the spiteful remarks, they must boycott those few women, she added.

In the last eight years, since Okram Ibobi took over as Chief Minister of Manipur, the Government has been functioning with a very myopic attitude, making the maximum number of recruitment in Government jobs from amongst the people of Thoubal district and allotting maximum number of contract and supply orders to the people of Thoubal district, they said.

The people's movement and the demands raised are not for the people of Imphal only.

It is for the welfare of all the people of Manipur including Thoubal district.

They also asked if any one can guarantee whether such killing like those of Rabina from Imphal West district and Ch Sanjit from Imphal East district would never happen in Thoubal district.

"In case any such killing takes place in Thoubal district, would not the people of other districts joined the movements launch by the people of Thoubal district?", the JACs asked.

Those people who dared to challenge the people's movement should clarify whether they approve the alleged extra-judicial killings perpetrated under O Ibobi's rule, demanded Th Anita, convenor of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Ch Sanjit.
