Imphal, April 22 2021:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has demanded that the Government should take up immediate actions against shopkeepers selling goods at unusually high prices following the closure of main markets at Imphal.
In a statement, the student body said that said following the closure of 'Ima Keithels' due to the impending 'second wave' of the Covid-19 pandemic, some businessmen are taking the opportunity to hike the prices of goods adding to the woes of the already suffering public.
The public had hardly recovered from the suffering of the yearlong lockdown and now because of the selfish motives of such businessmen, the public are agains put to extreme misery, added the statement.
The increase in price of commodities whenever any issue grips the State has been a regular phenomenon, added the statement.
The Government also seems to take no cognizance of the issue, added the statement.
The Government has not taken up any step to regulate the price of products during such issues, as the Chamber of Commerce, the agency which is supposed to work towards regulating price of commodities has also become an idle agency, alleged AMSU in the statement.
AMSU advised all the shops to have a price list of all the commodities sold in their respective shop on display permanently at a visible place and appealed the public to cooperate with the student body in their campaign to monitor the prices of goods.
