Imphal, January 22 2010: In a suspected case of acrimony over the extra-marital affairs of the husband, a woman was found hung to death in a suspicious manner in the house of her husband.

According to police report, Phamdom Ningol Sadokpam Ongbi Sangita Devi (33) was found hung to death with the help of a plastic rope near the front door of the house of her husband identified as Romanta alias Inaoba at Ghari Awang Leikai early morning today.

Son of Sadokpam Gouramani, Romanta alias Inaoba (35) is a personnel of 5th IRB.

Apart from strangulation marks on her neck, there were injuries on her head and the tongue was found sticking out.

Police have recovered a spade, an iron rod, a plastic stool and a long plastic rope from the scene of the crime.

Information culled from the site of the incident said that Romanta married Sangita and they have three children, two daughters and one son.

But after Romanta brought another woman identified as Angeli of North AOC, Sangita went back to her maternal home, also at Ghari Awang Leikai and stayed there for nearly one year.

Around a week back, Sangita returned and the two women have been staying together in the same house.

Since then the neighbouring people have been seeing Sangita being ill-treated by Romanta and Angeli as well as frequent fights in the family.

The neighbouring people, however, did not hear anything last night and Sangita was found hung to death early morning today.

To investigate whether Sangita hung herself to death or whether her body was hung after being murdered, Lamphel police have registered a case and the body has been picked kept it at the RIMS morgue.

It is said that before the neighbours came to know about the death of Sangita, Romanta and Angeli fled the house taking along with them their one and half years old son.

However, Lamphel police have managed to arrest Romanta.

Meanwhile, tension ran high in the locality with local residents coming out to protest the killing.

But the police controlled the situation from getting out of hand.

Nonetheless, a joint meeting of the local residents, while alleging that Romanta, Angeli and other family members are involved in the murder of Sangita, has decided to banish all the family members of Romanta from the locality.

Demanding termination of Romanta from his service and his life imprisonment as punishment, the meeting has also decided that homestead of Romanta should be registered in the names of the children left behind by Sangita.
