Imphal, May 21 2021: 30th Death Anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi was observed at Mekola organised by Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Block Congress Committee today.

Floral tributes were paid to the photo of Rajiv Gandhi during the ceremony.

In connection with the occasion, a feast was also organised for the inmates and volunteers of Community Isolation Centre at Gulap Higher Secondary School at Mekola.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Manaoton, social worker and member of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee said that the Death Anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is observed across the country to pay homage to him who dreamt of a new and unified India.

He continued that Govt should support the activities of social workers and individuals who are extending help to the people amid this difficult time of COVID-19 pandemic instead of issuing orders imposing restrictions on donation of oxygen cylinders and other relief items without the permission of the Government.

He also expressed concern on the shortage of doctors at PHC Mekola during the difficult time of the pandemic and appealed to the authorities concerned to fulfil the requisites of the PHC for its smooth and efficient functioning since it is the only PHC which is catering to the medical needs of the locals of Meitram, Konthoujam and Lairenjam.

Members of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Youth Congress Committee and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Mahila Congress Committee also attended the occasion.

In commemoration of the 30th Death Anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, Keisham Meghachandra, MLA, Wangkhem Assembly Constituency donated one oxygen concentrator and medical kits at the Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC), Bishnunaha in Wangkhem A/C today.

He also handed over breakfast, lunch packets for the Covid patients and para medical staff at the CHIC through the volunteers of the centre and members of the 32 Wangkhem Block Congress Committee.

Observing the 30th Death Anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, Kshetrigao Block Congress Committee under the aegis of Md Amin Shah, former MLA of Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency distributed relief items to households in the containment zones of the constituency.

The relief items which included rice, pulses, salt, edible oil, potatoes etc were distributed in the containment zones of Top Dusara, Top Khabam, Khergao, Keikhu Muslim, Keikhu Mayai Leikai, Bamon Kampu and Irilbung.

Speaking on the occasion, Md Amin Shah recalled the selfless contributions of Rajiv Gandhi towards the development of the nation and his demise was a huge loss for all.

He appealed to all to strive earnestly to accomplish the dreams of Rajiv Gandhi for the welfare of the nation.

Further he urged all to strictly adhere to Covid SOPs in order to protect oneself from the pandemic and assured that he will continue to extend help to those who are affected by COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
