Imphal, December 20 2024:
Work orders for construction of concrete roads with financial assistance from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) would be issued soon, said PWD Additional Chief Engineer Ch Bisworchandra.
Talking with The Sangai Express, the Additional Chief Engineer informed that the tender process has been completed and financial bids have been opened for construction of concrete roads.
The total length of the roads which would be constructed with concrete with funding from AIIB is 547 Kms and it includes a stretch of Imphal-Pangei Road from Lamlong bridge to Khurai Heikrumakhong, he said.
As the concrete roads would be constructed with loans from AIIB, allotment of work orders requires an NOC from the AIIB.
The department is awaiting the NOC and the NOC is expected soon, Bisworchandra said.
Accepting that the stretch from Lamlong bridge to Khurai Heikrumakhong is in a very bad shape, the Additional Chief Engineer informed that the particular road stretch has been listed among the roads which would be constructed with concrete.
Construction of the road with stones and bitumen as per the people's wish will need obtaining administrative approval from the Government which should be followed by financial sanction, tender and then allotment of work order.
All these processes will take considerable time.
The concrete road project will be ready for execution before these processes can be completed, he said.
The department may not be able to construct all the roads at a time even if the work orders are allotted but the contractors concerned would take responsibility for maintenance of these roads, Bisworchandra said.
