Imphal, June 12 2024:
Taking strong exception to the unfolding situation in Jiribam and the ambush on the advance security team of the Chief Minister at K Sinam Village on June 10, Sagolband AC MLA RK Imo has advocated that an enquiry be initiated againts the officers who were given advance intelligence report in January this year of the simmering tension in the border district but did not take note of the threat.
RK Imo said that all officers who showed lackadaisical attitude despite getting a confidential report from the Government must be held accountable for the loss of lives and properties in Jiribam as they were directed to take pre-emptive measures in advance.
Notably, lapses on the part of the police and security forces were flagged after the orders which were issued by Chief Minister's Office to the Director General of Police in January this year to take pre-emptive measures for ensuring security in Jiribam were made public a couple of days back.
The confidential orders cited reports of movement of "200 armed Kuki-Zo militants" from Churachandpur to areas in Tamenglong district bordering Jiribam.
The otherwise peaceful Jiribam was hit by a series of arson and other forms of attack on civilians after a Meetei man was killed after he was abducted him in Jiribam on June 6 .
In a Facebook post, RK Imo who is the son-in-law of Chief Minister N Biren Singh wrote, "We have top police officials heading the Intelligence Wing in our State.
State Government has to initiate an enquiry regarding the lackadaisical attitude of the officers who were given advance intelligence report by the State Government regarding the situation in Jiribam earlier this year.
These officers should be held accountable for the loss of lives and property of all those affected and, pending such enquiry they should be suspended and strict action should be taken up against them as per procedures prescribed by law.
Along with their associate officers, they should also be held accountable for the ambush on the State Police team heading as advance cavalcade for the Chief Minister, which is also related to the Jiribam incident.
"As a Member of the Legislative Assembly of the State, I demand that the State Government have the order issued immediately and fix responsibilities against all the officers and people involved, and further ensure that the people of Jiribam be given adequate security and allowed to continue living at the original place of residence sooner than later" .
