Imphal, July 10 2024:
The Dhanamanjuri University, established as a State University in 2017 with grand ambitions of improving the education sector is now marred with irregularities due to lack of proper infrastructure and manpower.
Without attention and timely intervention, the students of all affiliated colleges are facing a grim future, said AIMS president Oinam Nikarson.
Speaking to reporters at the office of the student body at Kwakeithel, Nikarson listed the issues that have been plaguing the University and endangering the career of thousands of students.
Problems undergraduates are facing
Nikarson said the 5th Semester examinations of the University have been held but the results have not been announced yet.
Examinations processes for 2nd and 4th Semesters have not started.
As steps have not been taken up to hold the 6th Semester examinations timely, students may not be able to enrol in PG courses.
Problems postgraduates are facing
Results of the 4th Semester examinations of different courses have not been announced yet.
Examinations of 1st and 3rd Semesters for academic session 2023-24 have not been conducted, and this is likely to extend the term of the PG courses to three years.
Research scholars
Not given the UGC 12B status, the DMU is not getting any form of grants, projects and its research scholars are not receiving scholarships.
Lack of scholarships, funding and projects are hampering the works of the research scholars.
The causes
The root cause of this massive mess and problems in the University is the lack of basic infrastructure, manpower and regular staff, said Nikarson.
The University lacks a regular Vice-Chancellor, a regular Registrar, a regular Controller of Examinations, a regular Finance Officer, and required staff of the Examination Section.
Students who have completed graduation and given NTA CUET examinations for admission to PG courses are facing a grim future.
They may not get admission due to lack of documents proving their degrees, said Nikarson.
The Government must take up immediate steps to streamline the University's functioning.
It must bear all the responsibilities for the losses of students of the University, he said.
The press meet was held by six student bodies including AIMS, MSF, DESAM, KSA and SUK.
