Imphal, February 09 2010: The individual killed in a reported encounter with a combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and troops of 21 Assam Rifles at Thongjao Maning under Waikhong police station in the intervening night of February 5 and 6 has turned out to be a surrenderee.

The victim Ningombam Boynao alias Jiten (20) s/o Ningombam Thoiba of Thoubal Leishangthem was a surrenderee staying with 34 Assam Rifles at their Yairipok post.

Contrary to the police claim that one lethod grenade launcher, two shells, one 9 mm pistol, one magazine, four live rounds, 21 empty cartridges of AK ammunition and one empty cartridge of 9 mm were recovered from the encounter side, family members contended that Boynao left KCP and surrendered to security forces and was staying with 34 AR at Yairipok.

They said that Boynao was arrested by police commandos posted at Pallel about two years back when he was a cadre of the KCP.

After languishing in jail for sometime, Boynao surrendered to 34 Assam Rifles.

Boynao came to his home on January 18 to attend marriage ceremony of one of his elder brother scheduled for the next day.

He left home on February 5 to report at the AR post.

The same night commander of the AR post informed Boynao's family that he had not reported at the post.

Family members have claimed the corpse of Boynao after post mortem at Lilong PHC today.

Meanwhile, identity of the individual killed in another reported encounter with troops of 28 Assam Rifles at Kyamgei Muslim Takhok Palli under Irilbung police station on February 3 has been established.

He was one Md Dilip Khan (29) s/o Md Hatim of Thoubal Keibung Sanashabi Leirak.

Family members contended that Md Dilip Khan was an innocent married man.

He was a rickshaw puller by profession.

It is reported that he left home at about 3 pm of February 3 to watch movie in a video parlour located at Thoubal Khekman.

After post mortem at Lilong PHC today, the corpse has been handed over to family members.

Notably, police claim that one AK rifle, one magazine, nine live rounds and two demand notes of PULF were recovered from Md Dilip.
