Imphal, November 08 2022: A team of NAB officials seized 40 soap cases containing heroin from V Vengnom in Churachandpur district yesterday but the drug peddler reportedly evaded arrest.

According to well placed sources, a team of NAB officials carried out a cordon and search operation at V Vengnom in Churachandpur yesterday, during which one Mahindra Bolero with Assam registration number was signalled to stop.

Saying that the driver, however, fled from the area leaving behind the vehicle, the sources claimed that the NAB officials seized the 40 soap cases containing heroin from the modified chamber of the Bolero.

The chamber was opened by a mechanic in the presence of independent witnesses, it added.

Inside each soap case, heroin was found packed in plastic pouches and they altogether weighed around 665 gram (excluding the weight of the soap cases), as per the sources.

It also said that the whole process of searching, checking and seizure were recorded.

A case has been registered at NAB police station.
