Imphal, September 06 2026: A new political party, christened the People's Political Party (PPP), was launched today.

Addressing a function held at Hotel Imphal, founding president of the PPP, retired Colonel Haorungbam Sarat, said the party would contest the upcoming 13th State Assembly elections.

He also said that the PPP is recognised by the Election Commission of India (ECI) .

According to him, the PPP was formed on May 5, 2024, and received registration from the ECI on August 31 this year.

He said he had received information that eight new political parties from Manipur have also applied for registration with the ECI .

Stating that the PPP is based on regionalism, Sarat said the party believes in working together with other parties that share similar ideals.

Time will tell how the party progresses, he said.
